First Grade - MS. PARRA
First Grade Experience
First grade is a year of discovery. During first grade, students discover subjects they excel in, leading to instant satisfaction. Students also discover how they learn best when they encounter subjects where mastery takes time. Excitement is abundant when our students understand a new concept or process. First grade is also when students begin to fall in love with reading independently. Our classroom library ensures our early readers easily find the "perfect book." Our Catholic education supports students as they discover how to be a strong student, in and out of the classroom. Alongside traditional classroom resources, iPads are an interactive tool to help students understand a concept or explore a favorite subject, such as animals and planets. All students attend weekly Wednesday Mass, and first grade students receive opportunities to lead Mass in the Spring trimester. We hope you will visit us, so we can share our school community with you.
Meet Ms. Parra
Hello! My name is Sonia Parra, and I teach First Grade at St. Catherine of Siena School. I joined St. Catherine in 2017 and have taught for seven years. I earned a bachelor's degree in English, language arts, and reading from St. Edward's University and master's degree in educational administration from Texas A&M University–Commerce. Prior to St. Catherine, I taught bilingual kindergarten at David G. Burnet Elementary in Dallas, Texas. After visiting St. Catherine for the first time, I absolutely fell in love with the school and community! I love adventure, so I decided to make beautiful Southern California my new home.
