Welcome to Kindergarten!

Hello! My name is Sonia Parra and I am the Kindergarten teacher here at St. Catherine of Siena. This is my third year at St. Catherine and my seventh year teaching. I earned my Bachelors in English, Language Arts, and Reading at St. Edward's University in Austin, Texas where I completed several internships throughout my four years there, culminating in a semester of student-teaching in kindergarten. After graduation I took a bilingual kindergarten position at David G. Burnet Elementary in Dallas, Texas. Two years after I began teaching I completed my Master's degree in Educational Administration at Texas A&M- Commerce. I love adventure and beautiful Southern California kept calling my name, so I decided to make it my new home! After visiting St. Catherine for the first time I absolutely fell in love with it and with the community!

One of my favorite things about teaching kindergarten is getting to implement the Starfall curriculum! Starfall creates a fun, magical, and creative learning environment that keeps students engaged from beginning to end! During centers time students are able to use our classroom i-Pads to reread alphabet poems, listen to songs, and play math games to review what we have learned in class. I welcome everyone- current parents and potential parents- to visit our classroom and find out more how we make learning fun in kindergarten!

God Bless,

Sonia Parra, M. Ed.
